Into The Light
A Personal Testimony
"Listening to Into The Light was an emotional rollercoaster journey about spiritual warfare. I was simply blown away by this chilling yet incredible story."
The hairs on my arms stood up on end at points of this incredible musical and tears of joy streamed down my face.
There is one clear message, and one clear instruction throughout the masterpiece and brainchild of Kevin Wilson, "put your trust in Jesus!”. He will break the chains of bondage. He will fight our battles if we accept him into our lives.
Alleluia! A tale of salvation and deliverance, which is always possible through our lord and saviour of the world, Jesus Christ. The lyrics and immersive experience of 'Into the light' are powerful, hard hitting, thought provoking, captivating, and yet so beautiful. The demons that haunt Nanoushka are terrifying and very real.
Like Nanoushka, I experienced very similar as I became closer to Jesus, leaving my occultist background of over 20 years behind me. The weeks leading up to my baptism I was plagued, tormented, harassed and bullied as I became a victim of spiritual warfare. I was being tested and worn down by the enemy, physically, emotionally and mentally. The devil is the greatest liar and wants to devour the souls of those who have, or do dwell in the darkness with him. He also loves to make us feel alone, helpless and defeated. But there is one name they fear, and they flee at the mere whisper of his name! That's how powerful our God is!!
Nanoushka cries out for help, and help arrives in the form of a knowledgeable vicar, who intervenes and delivers her from the demons! He baptised her and the battle is won! Alleluia! Freedom!
Like Nanoushka, I felt confused, isolated, ashamed and extremely scared during my attack. I even questioned my sanity, "I must be going mad!"
Like the words in one of the songs:
"You try to tell people you're under attack and they just laugh".
My partner, a non-believer, spat his drink out because he laughed so hard when I told him!
"They tell me I will never be rid of them, seems like death might be the only way!".
Wow, scary or what!
But this is the real thought process of one under such attack. The word exhausting doesn't even cut it. I was unprepared and ill-informed or warned for what I experienced. Listening to 'Into the light' really helped me understand what I went through and broke the stigma of shame I felt. I found it extremely educational, and inspiring. After listening to 'Into the light', it became evident that my journey was not unique.
I just wish I had been introduced to it sooner, because it would have been a crucial tool to navigate the uncertain terrain I walked through in solitude. At the time I briefly mentioned to some of my church friends what was happening but omitted the horrific details. (I did receive prayer and eventually a blessing was carried out in my home). My family did not know how to support me during this process because they couldn't understand why I would rebuke our traditions and practices, which seem so normal to them and suggested I return to a spiritualist church to seek advice.
Likewise, my friends couldn't understand or help either. I was completely isolated and consumed by a great shame that I wasn't good enough to be baptised. The gripping fear that something was very wrong in the depths of my soul.
- Would I be asked to leave the church because of my background?
- Was I bringing something evil into the church?
- Would I be exiled and removed from the church somehow?
- Ban the witch!!
- Burn the witch!!
All of this whirling through my head on my own!!
On top of the voices I heard, the demonic faces I saw, the noises only I could hear, and nightmares hand delivered from the devil. Awful. However, I just knew Jesus was there with me, holding me. HE fought my battle and won! I put my complete trust in HIM!
I prayed and prayed and read scripture, sang worship songs, and persevered with my new faith! But it would have been wonderful to have had more support and an experienced community rallying around me to comfort and help me. Therefore, I feel compelled to speak up about this issue at my church and within my congregation.
It is my belief that every church should have a support group for those who are in spiritual warfare and under attack. It should be a topic that is frequently discussed and explored and not merely and briefly touched upon. I thank God for working through Kevin to create and produce this important and spectacular musical. I am also incredibly grateful that God led me to St Mags, the very church Kev and his wonderful wife Viv attend, and I am incredibly grateful to call them both friends.
Particularly as I enjoyed the opportunity to discuss the musical further and ask burning questions I had. However, I can't help but feel regret that I didn't reach out for more help when I was in the midst of the spiritual battle. Because I imagine I would have been signposted to Kev and Viv, and I believe they would have helped me through it and lifted the shame and fear in my heart. We must destroy and eliminate the shame associated with spiritual warfare.
This magnificent and remarkable musical has been incredibly helpful and inspiring for me. It would have given me hope in the darkness. I can't recommend 'Into the light' enough - simply astonishing.
I pray Kev feels inspired to get a live production going again. I will be there, in the front row singing along to the songs!
God bless you all! Because as another of the songs says: "He is the man. Simply put your trust in Jesus!”
God is so good, and he saved me! I’m grateful my spiritual warfare is behind me, as is my past life and I now walk peacefully with the Lord every day!
I wear the armour of God each day. Free at last!
Alleluia! Peace be with you!
